RESTORING PROFESSIONAL CONFIDENCE AFTER EXPERIENCING AN INCIDENT

This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity equips pharmacists with evidencebased knowledge and practical strategies to improve patient care and professional practice. Focusing on current clinical challenges, it explores key concepts, risk factors, management approaches, and the pharmacist’s role in optimising outcomes within the South African healthcare context. Through case studies, reflective practice, and actionable guidance, pharmacists will gain the skills to apply learning directly in practice, strengthen interprofessional collaboration, and enhance both patient safety and quality of care.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:

  • describe potential psychological impacts on pharmacists following an adverse incident;
  • define the three phases in the continuum of psychosocial health and the importance of psychosocial safety;
  • discuss the strategies and tools to rebuild professional confidence;
  • apply reflective practice principles to construct an action plan.
