Description
REDUCING THE BURDEN OF DIABETES COMPLICATIONS
Diabetes complications remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, with cardiovascular and renal disease contributing most to patient outcomes. This CPD activity equips pharmacists to identify strategies that reduce these complications, understand the cardiorenal benefits of newer therapies such as SGLT2 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, tirzepatide, and finerenone, and apply evidence-based treatment recommendations in older adults. By strengthening their role in medication reviews, patient counselling, and therapy optimisation, pharmacists can meaningfully reduce the burden of diabetes complications and improve quality of life across diverse care settings.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
- describe strategies to reduce or prevent complications of diabetes;
- identify the cardiorenal benefits of newer medications for type 2 diabetes;
- recommend medications for type 2 diabetes in an older person.
Expires 31st December 2025
